Hi Students,
This week, I'd like you to reflect on your experience at Hellgate High School. How was the experience for you overall? How did you feel? What did you learn? What were your expectations? How was the experience different from/the same as what you expected? What was beneficial about the experience? What did you like? Dislike? Finally, what question would you have asked if we had had more time to talk to the students? Please write at least ten sentences in your response. Please be honest! I look forward to reading your reflections on this unique experience.
Happy writing!
In my opinion, I think visiting hight school students was a good experience . At first, I expected that they will ask about religion, clothing's code and female driving in Saudi Arabia. I expected that they might ask about culture. I thought that they are teenagers who are driven by their emotions. I was surprised that they forgot every things and asked about my scholarship. They acted like an adults and asked wise questions and answered cleverly. In additions, some of them thanked us for visiting them which is very nice. I wonder weather they were told to avoid some topics or they all agreed avoiding some sensitive questions that any teenager may ask. I am impressed by their comments that international diversity of Missoula isn't important to Helgate students, but it might be important to the community. in other words, they will not be racists. I like some of their questions such as what is the most important thing in your culture. honestly, I walked into their class nervous and uncomfortable, but I walked out impressed and happy. Thank you so much professor for taking us their, and I hope that they might visit us in the Eli someday.
ReplyDeleteMy experience at Hellgate High School was really good. If I didn't have this opportunity, I couldn't go to the high school in the U.S. The atmosphere in the high school was completely different from my high school in Japan, and it was so free. I was surprised at first but thought that this is typical American's atmosphere. Even if the students were not restricted by many rules, they looked independent enough and working hard. I was also impressed with the form of lecture. It was totally different from Japan because the communication between teachers and students was much more than Japan, and students were willing to raise their hands and gave their opinions to the class. Moreover, they had strong opinion in terms of politics, economics, culture, and so on. The most important thing is that I have to know not only about America but also about Japan. Without having knowledge about politics, economics, history in my own country, I can't tell about my country to the world. As a representative of my country, I want to have such knowledge from now for the future. Thank you for this great opportunity.
ReplyDeleteVisiting a sophomore students in Hellgate High School was a good experience. I was happy that they were welcome us. I was surprised that all students were behave, and they were interested about other cultures. When the students were starting to ask a question, I had thought that the students were from highest section because they were active and their questions were really good and interesting. To be honest, I really enjoyed the discussion because I felt that they were interested about global issues. However, most of students want to ask more question, but we don't have enough time to answer their question. When we ask them about some issues here in United States, I was impressed because their opinion were strong and relevant. In addition, that experience helps me to practice my English skills and I learned from them about American culture especially high school culture that was different from my country. If I had more time to talk the students , I would asked them how are they sure about their future. To teachers and students of HHS, I would like to say, Thank you so much for sharing their ideas.
ReplyDeleteI did not expect to have so good experience. I thought that the class would not have so many students. The students showed a lot of interest for us and it was very interesting to have the oportunity to ask them about what kind of issues they were interested. Even though they are young yet, I had the impresion that they were concerned about the most relevants problems of the world nowdays, there was a suprise for me because they demostrated their maturity.
ReplyDeleteBefore visiting to Hellgate High School, honestly, I thought it's a little tiresome thing. However, after visiting, my mind totally changed. It's much better than expected, and it's a good experience to understand American students for me. The class was a relaxed atmosphere, but all students were very serious during class. The Korean education is usually teaching by rote although it is an unreasonable way to study. Korean high school students are facing an "Examination Hell," so their main concern is only the entrance to the university. However, Hellgate students were showing interest in many different fields. Today, world is as one. All countries should cooperate for mutual advantage. Finally, if I have a chance to talk to the students again, I would like to ask that the role of the U.S. in the international community will continue or change in the future.
