  1. Well, I think the hobby ,becoming a professional job can be fun. I think it is very possible because people will be very motivated by the popularity and money which increases their joy of doing their hobbies and be professional. For example, a scientists who used to work in his lab for the whole day was asked weather he get tired of his working in the lab. He answered that he never have job or work implying that he really enjoy his work in the lab and never get tired of it. Also, I love typing on the computer and working on it and never get bored. As result, I used to receive many requests of typing researches, documents and notes. I was required to finish in two days,so I worked the entire day and night to finish typing. Although it was tiring, I enjoy doing it because I get paid. on the other hand, many people complaint about their jobs which are literally hobbies such as drawing, teaching, typing and managing. I agree with Salvador that it depends on the situation.

    2. Hi Hussah,
I agree with you because it is important to get paid money. It is also for my family to take care for their future. If I think about that, I think professional job becomes worthwhile and kind of fun.

    3. I agree with you that you never get tired if you really like your job. In addition typing and researching on the computer is easier for you because you are comportable by doing that activities. Keep up the good work and good luck.

    4. Hi Hussah,

I agree that hobbies that are done as professional jobs can still be fun, especially if you still enjoy what you do. I would ask whether it is possible to have "fun" by making money. Is making money fun? Also, I take issue with your claim that teaching is a hobby. I have never known anyone who teaches for a hobby. It is very much a job for all of us. However, that doesn't mean we don't enjoy it!

Here are three errors that I bet you can correct:
      1. a scientists....
      2. he never have
      3. Although it was tiring, I enjoy doing it because I get paid.

      Thanks for you writing!

  2. This is Salva's response:

When a hobby becomes a professional job or sport yet can be fun. I think that depends of the person. If someone has a hobby is because enjoy doing it; then, there is a motivation and try do it as better as possible and if someone is paid for that and can do it full time probably will be very happy. Nevertheless, for somepeople if the hobby gets a job, the activity can lost this enjoyment because of the routine, stress and the suplementary effort that can requiere.
For me writting is a job becuase there is a obligation that I have not choose by myself even when I enjoy with my progress, because it´s something that someone requieres me.

    1. Hi Salva,

You've pointed out some valid points on what can happen to a hobby once it enters the realm of work. There is no doubt that the "routine, stress, and supplementary effort" required of one's job can take all the fun out of what was once an enjoyable hobby. I can also relate to your assertion that writing is a job. I often feel this way when I have to write a 6-8 paragraph response each week for the class I am taking right now. In fact, I will (reluctantly) sit down at the computer for at least two hours tonight to write it!

On grammar, there are many errors in this response. I think you can go back and find quite a few of them on your own. Here are a few that stood out to me:
      1. I think that depends (missing subject + "depends ON")
      2. if the hobby gets a job (gets-->becomes)
      3. have not choose (choose--> -ed form)
      4. requires me--> requires of me OR requires me to do

  3. I think it is more interesting when a hobby becomes a professional job or sport. As a matter of fact, most sports in Olympic were hobbies before became an official sports in Olympic. Like for example, shooting, equestrian, and many more. All these sports are hobbies before they recognized as sports. However, bowling and billiard are hobbies of many people, but these two activities weren't recognized as sports in Olympic. On the other hand, there are some Filipinos became rich because of playing billiard, they are professional billiard player and they participate in the World billiard competition. So, this information is prooving that a hobby is more interesting when become a job or sports because it will make you rich and famous.

    1. Hi Alejandro,
I agree with you. If a hobby becomes a professional job, it may be very fun; furthermore, if the job leads to riches and fame,it's best.

    2. Hi Alejandro,
I agree with you. I often see the Olympic game and the professional players do that sports because they are good at. I think hobbies are still fun even if they become jobs because we like them.

    3. Hi Alejandro,

I can see what you are saying when you state that a hobby may become "more interesting" after it becomes a professional job. This must certainly be true of athletes who end up competing in the Olympics. How exciting would that be! However, I'd like to pose the following question: If you become rich and famous, does that automatically mean that your job is still fun? Does being rich and famous equal fun?

      On grammar:
      1. they recognized (passive)
      2. there are some Filipinos became rich (adjective clause)
      3. On the other hand, there are some Filipinos became rich because of playing billiard, they are professional billiard player (comma splice)

  4. I think it is ideal when a hobby becomes a professional sport or job. One of the important points in choosing job is whether he/she can be satisfied with his/her job. When they are satisfied with their job, they can accomplish their job with much more efficiency and get good results. Of course, it is good fun when a hobby becomes job. On the other hand, all jobs have stress. Even though they really like their own job, they also have stress form their job. Stress is the intrinsic nature of job. However, it's important how to reduce and overcome the stress from job. When they really like their job, they feel less stress. Although they have stress during working, they can more easily get rid of stress.

    1. It is true that everyone can be successful if their are satisfied with their job. As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed my job eventhough it is stressful sometimes. However, If somebody appreciated what I did , my stress would reduce, and I would be happy.

    2. Hi Kyeong A,
I think your idea is right. If our hobbies become jobs, our stress from jobs will decrease because we like them. The most important thing is that we can do our jobs with less stress by doing leisure.

    3. Hi Kyeong A,

You make two really good points in your response. As other students have reiterated, we can do our jobs more efficiently when you like what we do. Second, I agree that we are likely to feel less stress if we enjoy our job.

      On grammar:
      1. You switch between "he/she" and "they" in your response. I would simplify and use "you" or "we."
      2. it's important [to know] how to reduce
      3. during working--> while working

  5. My answer is yes and I think the hobby can be still fun even if it become the professional job. I’m watching movie and doing the flower arrangement as my hobbies but I think it will still be fun even if it becomes the job such as a film critic or a professional flower arrangement. I’m doing such activities just for fun. For example, the professional figure skaters in Japan also say that they are doing skating because they want to make the people around them happy and enjoy the figure skating. I think they are enjoying their works because they look to be filled with pleasures and smile. In general, our hobbies are the things we are good at so we can continue them with a lot of fun. We also want to improve our abilities and knowledge by doing our hobbies such as sports or the things we like to do. We have feelings like these when we do our hobbies so these will not be changed if these become works. As a result, I’m sure that we can keep our motivations on our works, never get board with them and don’t have to accumulate our stress more than the usual works at the office. From these points of views, I think to work with fun is possible for all of us.

    2. I agree with Rina but also when a hobby becomes a job the obligation can do that people don´t enjoy as before.

    3. Have you ever thought about the slump of professional players? You said that professional figure skaters look to be filled with pleasures and smile. However, sometimes it's just a wonderful performance. They always could not get a good record. Sometimes they also would be in a slump.

    4. Hi Rina,

You provide two personally relevant examples by stating that you enjoy being either a professional flower arranger or film critic. I feel exactly the same way: I think I'd really enjoy being a professional fly fishing guide. However, Kyeong A brings up a good point when she mentions the "slump" that professional players often experience. Indeed, I have talked to many fishing guides who tell me they don't even enjoy fishing any more because of the demands of their job! Personally, I don't think this would happen to me.

      On grammar:
      1. I’m watching movie and doing..../I’m doing/they are enjoying (simple present, not present progressive)
      2. ....we are good at so we can continue.../...our hobbies so these will not (add comma before "so" since it's a coordinating conjunction like and, but, or, etc.)

  6. I don´t agree with you because I don´t see anguish in football players, they enjoy with them job, but I understand what a hobby becomes in job many people can feel stress because job is more demanding than hobby.

  7. I agree with you. Depending on whether same activity is job or hobby, the stress is different. The job with responsibility or obligation is always accompanied by stress even if he/she really likes the job.

  8. Hi Masaya,

You make a couple of interesting assertions, but I would need more explanatory details on what you mean before I can state whether I fully agree with you. You claim that we work in order to lead a [good]life. Very true. However, how does working in order to lead a life bring about negative emotions? You make this assertion but you don't explain it. You also state that we have to develop specialized skills in our chosen profession. This is also a given. At the same time, I don't see how/why this would inevitably lead us to feeling anguish. Is it possible that developing skills in a profession we greatly enjoy could be fun? If not, why? These are interesting points; it would be good to see them explained in a little more detail.

    On grammar/format:
    1. The achievement can give us a great pleasure.
    a. The achievement-->this achievement
    b. a great pleasure-->a great [deal] of pleasure OR great pleasure

    2. ,I think If a hobby
    If--> if

    3. This is not a big deal, but there are quite a few spacing errors in your response.
